Lotus Evora Police Car in the UK

Lotus Evora, British police sports car, was officially unveiled at the show this week at the Autosport International Show at Birmingham’s NEC. Once his duties are to see the sports car manufacturer presented the keys of the Evora to the West Midland Police, who will view the car for a period of two weeks of testing.
As you likely already know, that’s where the Evora comes in. It’s massively larger than the Elise—21.9 inches longer, with a 10.9-inch stretch in the wheelbase—which puts it on par with other sports cars such as the Porsche 911 and Cayman. The Evora is roughly five inches shorter than the 911 but still manages to squeeze in similarly sized (i.e., tiny) back seats that are designed to fit very small adults or children up to about 10 years old. It also has a narrower doorsill and a 2.5-inch-higher seating position, making it far easier to get into and out of, which is one of the Elise’s setbacks. Two six-foot-plus males can sit in comfort without their shoulders touching, which is inevitable in an Elise. In fact, this six-foot-five driver didn’t even have to put the front seat back all the way to get comfortable.
The Evora is planted and secure, yet it picks apart corners with a light and playful feel that always makes mid-engine cars feel so special—think Ferrari F430, only with better steering. The Evora’s handling is so natural and fluid that you get the sense it actually enjoys being pushed. Braking is similarly spectacular, with immediate bite and extremely linear behavior. Despite weighing about 100 fewer pounds than a 911, the Evora wears 13.8-inch front brakes that are larger than the Porsche’s. Lotus says they’ve been designed to easily shrug off track use.
PC Steven Rounds from, CMPG said: “The Lotus is a visually stunning machine which offers us the opportunity to engage with the public, reinforce and promote the life-saving messages of road safety.”

Aston Martin has announced a new addition to its Vantage expanding their V8 Vantage lineup with the addition of the S version, which is available in both coupe and roadster body styles. The Aston Martin V8 Vantage S is ‘beefed’ up by a host of features that take the standard Vantage to the next level. New S models borrow certain styling cues from the V12 Vantage and also come with increased power, a new transmission and a tweaked chassis.
Aston Martin’s own 4.7 litre V8 engine has been engineered to deliver peak power of 430 bhp (436 PS / 321 kW) at 7300 rpm and torque of 490 Nm (361 lb.ft) at 5000 rpm and is coupled with a new ground-up developed Sportshift™ II transmission specifically designed for the Aston Martin V8 Vantage S with seven short ratio gears to deliver the most engaging and intense driver involvement.

Cadillac's Super Cruise

2013 Cadillac XTS

In the 1991 comedy What About Bob?, Bob Wiley (Bill Murray) is a fear-stricken adult bouncing from psychiatrist to psychiatrist. His newest doctor, Leo Marvin (Richard “I was in Jaws” Dreyfuss), gives Bob his newest book entitledBaby Steps. Wiley takes this seriously; hilarity ensues.
Baby steps are exactly what the automotive community is experiencing when it comes to fully automated cars. It started with cruise control in the early twentieth century and each baby step taken gets us closer and closer to fully autonomous motoring.
The newest baby step, though still in its infancy, is what GM calls Super Cruise (don’t confuse it with sustained, supersonic-level flight without afterburners). As expected, Super Cruise will make freeway driving autonomous. This makes sense because the controlled environment of a restricted-access road limits the variables: the cars are (hopefully) going the same direction and relative speeds between them are fairly similar. Super Cruise utilizes all the current safety systems (like lane-departure warning, collision prevention, blind-spot monitoring, and stability control) for real-time data. Other data collectors include cameras, GPS, radar, and ultrasonic sensors.
A myriad of sensors with 360 degrees of detection helped GM overcome what it says was the biggest hurdle: keeping a Super Cruise–equipped car in the middle of its lane. For example, GPS data can communicate upcoming curves in its path. Cameras and other sensors will spot people, lane markings, and pinpoint the relative location of other cars on the road.
Like Sex Panther, Super Cruise will work 100 percent of the time, some of the time. Rain and snow, for example, reduce the usefulness of some sensors to nil. If that is the case, the driver will have to take the helm. We’re not sure how the car will cope with switching from autonomous mode to driver-controlled, but we would suggest a warning that could not be ignored.
The hope is to have Super Cruise in production by the middle of this decade. A betting man would say this technology will roll out on the Cadillac XTS or a possible future Cadillac flagship, trickling down from there. This time frame does not seem completely unfeasible. Think about it: In the last decade, cars have started to automatically brake if an accident is imminent, detect and warn the driver about pedestrians, tell you when you’re sleepy, control spins, and warn of surrounding cars. Those are all fairly significant baby steps in a short amount of time.

Maruti Suzuki Ertiga : First Drive

Maruti Suzuki Ertiga First Drive

Once bitten, twice shy might be the reason for MSIL to go slow on launching a people mover of this nature for offering an MPV isn’t a new idea to the company. They have witnessed success with the Omni, but that vehicle has finally dwindled to being a last mile courier operator or a taxi. The second vehicle MSIL tried their luck with was the Versa, and while it did offer numerous creature comforts, being based on a van platform and not really catering to the private buyer market led to its demise. Yes, MSIL has managed to resurrect the Versa as the Eeco, but that is solely for the commercial segment and has found few takers in the private space.

Having said that, there was a moment of brilliance that caught our eye at the 2010 Auto Expo in Delhi. Maruti showcased a prototype van, namely the RIII, which boasted everything that one might desire from a people mover while keeping the private buyer in mind. While the RIII isn’t the direct concept that has resulted in the Ertiga, it definitely is the ‘idea car’ which allowed MSIL to gauge customer interest in such a vehicle. With a lot of positive response and the desire for a car-like MPV, the decision to make the Ertiga finally received the green light and the result is an exciting new car from MSIL which has a lot of potential, both at winning the private buyer’s heart as well as market dominance.

To ensure a brand connect and play a safer game than announcing a whole new line, MSIL has stated that the Ertiga is part of the Swift family of cars. While it does share the same floorpan as the Swift, albeit with an added extension close to 300mm in order to factor in the extra space needed to incorporate the third row, it looks like the result of designers dipping deep into the MSIL parts bin and putting together a vehicle that should look the part. Surprisingly, the Ertiga has turned out to be quite a head turner.

Honda Ridgeline

How can you enjoy America?s favorite past time from a Japanese pickup? Three words: Integrated. Bed. Cooler.
The Ridgeline has a slew of features that make it a great choice for tailgating at a baseball game, but more than anything else, is its pickup bed. First of all you can open it two ways, from the top like a normal pickup tailgate, or from the side, like a car door. You may not need to open it in more ways than one but when you?re limited for space in a parking lot, it?s great to have options.
Behind the trick door is a panel that lifts up to reveal a kind of trunk space within the bed. The ?trunk? is water-proof and has a drain plug so you can turn your ride into a big 4,500 pound drink cooler.

Mercedes-Benz Silver Arrow Concept

If you are in the market for a car like no other that will grab the attention of everyone along the strip, the 2011 Mercedes-Benz Silver Arrow is the perfect vehicle for you.
This car debuted during the 2011 Los Angeles Design Challenge that attempted to find the best film car to use in movies. This sleek vehicle includes a unique body, fast speed and futuristic features.
Future from the Past
Innovative designers from Germany and the United States collaborated to create this model. This vehicle is more of a work of art than a common mode of transportation. The body is a combination of the 1930s Silberpfeil racecar and the 1950s Uhlenhaut SLR.
Mercedes-Benz also relied on its Formula 1 racing history to influence the design of the 2011 Mercedes-Benz Silver Arrow Concept. The car is long and loaded with plenty of curves. It also adds pieces of current designs that help to identify the Mercedes-Benz line, such as the noticeable front grille.
The diagonal hubless roller track provides for steering in every direction, called omni-directional driving. The vehicle also features a Mag-Tech roof system that consists of a lightweight magnetic surface. The roof can be dropped to form a convertible or raised for a solid surface.">
Sci-Fi?
This vehicle blends utility and adventure. The car is easy to handle, while featuring an appearance straight out of sci-fi movies. The vehicle was made to commemorate Mercedes-Benz's 125th anniversary and is a testament to the innovation that the company provides.
The bright light strips help to draw attention to this one of a kind vehicle. The hubless wheels give the illusion that the car is floating over the road.
With its sleek design, unique maneuvering abilities, futuristic features and a style that is certain to attract the attention of anyone nearby, the 2011 Mercedes-Benz Silver Arrow Concept would be an ideal vehicle to own.

2013 Mercedes-benz a class amg spy photos turbo four and all wheel drive

2013 Mercedes-Benz A-class AMG

We’ve caught a look of the upcoming Mercedes A-class AMG, sporting only light camo obscuring the front and rear lower fascias.  In front, a large, black plastic appendage appears to be hiding a pair of bigger-than-standard air intakes and possibly a thin lower air dam. In the rear, the masking is likely hiding an AMG-specific diffuser. Note the large rectangular cutouts for the exhaust tips; when the A-class debuted in March, it featured more traditional oval units.
Logos on the grille and hood are concealed by clumsy chunks of camouflage, the lower piece partially obscuring the blacked-out grille. The wheels here appear to be blackened versions of the same design we’ve seen in official A-class images, and the body has been lowered.

Pros: World-class optional V6; carlike ride and handling; serious cargo space; good fuel economy; available small third-row seat for the kids
Cons: Plasticky interior; outdated 4-speed automatic transmission with base 4-cylinder engine
The 2012 Toyota RAV4 is like a champion nearing retirement: it's showing its age, but it won't go down without a fight. That's because this current RAV4 just got so much fundamentally right from the time of its debut in 2006. The tough yet restrained styling has become a fixture on our highways, and those crisp, simple lines continue to inspire contemporary crossover designs. The available 3.5-liter V6 engine gives the RAV4 the acceleration of a sports sedan, yet it still delivers solid fuel economy. You can even get a third-row jump seat in case extra children come along for the ride. In these respects and more, the RAV4 continues to be a compelling choice.
Inevitably, though, some chinks have appeared in the RAV4's armor. The base 4-cylinder engine isn't bad by itself, but you can only get it with a 4-speed automatic, which is an archaic piece by current standards. Also, this class has seen dramatically improved interior quality, leaving the RAV4's blocky, hard-plastic dashboard by the wayside. Toyota has done a good job of keeping the RAV4 up to date technologically, but there's only so much an automaker can do with a product entering its seventh year on the market.
But we're still big fans of the 2012 RAV4, and we bet you'll be able to get a great deal on one when the next-generation model starts turning up at dealerships. The RAV4 is a tried-and-true crossover that has remained surprisingly fresh. That's a formula we'll always endorse.
Comfort & Utility
The 2012 Toyota RAV4 comes in three trim levels: base, Sport and Limited. The base model keeps it simple for the most part, rocking 16-inch steel wheels (17-inch alloys with the V6), air conditioning, a tilting and telescoping steering wheel, power accessories and intermittent windshield wipers - but there's a pleasant surprise in the form of the standard six-speaker audio system, which boasts iPod/USB and Bluetooth connectivity.
The Sport adds 18-inch alloy wheels, a sport-tuned suspension, a larger rear spoiler, foglamps and special charcoal interior fabric. The Limited has 17-inch alloys but also gets a roof rack, dual-zone automatic climate control and keyless entry with push-button start. A fold-flat third-row seat is available on every RAV4, while other notable options, depending on trim level, include a sunroof, leather upholstery and a power driver's seat. Only the Limited is eligible for the optional navigation system, which includes advanced conversational voice-recognition software, a 6.1-inch touchscreen interface and the smartphone-based Entune mobile app system.
No two ways about it, sitting in the driver's seat of the RAV4 feels like being in a time warp. On the bright side, outward visibility from the commanding, if a little flat, front chairs is better than today's norm, since the RAV hails from a simpler time when good sight lines were considered a safety feature. But the dashboard - aside from the crisp Optitron gauges - looks like someone's decade-old idea of "rugged and outdoorsy" - it's all blocky shapes and hard plastics.
Don't get us wrong: Toyota's been building this thing for a long time, so we're confident everything is screwed together fairly well. It's just not the cabin of a cutting-edge crossover.
The RAV4's second row is mounted lower than the front seats. In fact, it's low enough that passengers with long legs might find thigh support lacking. Space is otherwise adequate, however, and the seat also reclines and slides fore and aft. The optional third-row seat is strictly for kids or unusually small and limber adults, but we're not complaining. In this class, it's unusual for a crossover to have a third-row seat at all, and there's no doubt that this one adds versatility to the RAV4's already appealing bio.
Cargo space is another strength at 12.3 cubic feet behind the third row, up to 37.2 cubic feet behind the second row and 73 cubic feet with all the rear seats folded down. That's some serious hauling ability for a smallish crossover.
However, the RAV4's cargo door is hinged on the passenger's side rather than in hatchback style at the top, so it swings out to that side when you're loading stuff. If you're parked on the right side of a street, you'll have to walk around the open door to access the cargo bay, and in a tight parallel-parking situation, that could be dicey.
Technology
We were ready to ding the RAV4 for being behind the times in tech, but Toyota beat us to the punch. Even the most basic RAV4 now comes with a standard high-content audio system, including iPod/USB and Bluetooth integration. Impressive. We are disappointed in Toyota's decision to limit the new Entune system - and the navigation system it comes bundled with - to the expensive Limited model, as opposed to making it available across the lineup. For those willing to pay for it, Entune will likely satisfy with its ability to integrate mobile apps like Pandora and OpenTable into the 6.1-inch touchscreen display. Just make sure your smartphone plan can handle all the data usage.
Performance & Fuel Economy
The RAV4 comes with either front- or all-wheel drive and either a 2.5-liter inline-4 or a 3.5-liter V6 engine. The 4-cylinder sends its 179 horsepower and 172 lb-ft of torque through a 4-speed automatic transmission, while the V6 cranks out its 269 hp and 246 lb-ft via a 5-speed automatic. We really don't mind the base engine at all, as it's peppy enough and respectably smooth; it's just the clunky old 4-speed automatic that we have a problem with. To be fair, we can't argue with the fuel economy, which checks in at 22 mpg city/28 mpg highway with FWD and 21/27 mpg with AWD. But the V6 is so much better in every other respect, ripping through its 5 gears with equal parts haste and refinement - and its fuel economy actually isn't far off the 4-cylinder's pace, at 19/27 mpg with FWD and 19/26 mpg with AWD.
Safety
The RAV4 comes standard with stability control, six airbags, active front head rests, and four-wheel ABS. The government hasn't crash tested the RAV4 since adopting its new methodology in 2010, but the independent Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave the RAV4 its highest mark of "Good" in every category except the roof strength test, in which the RAV4 was deemed "Acceptable."
Driving Impressions
Thanks to carlike dynamics and the excellent outward visibility we mentioned earlier, the RAV4 is a pleasure to drive. It's a great size, big enough for three rows of seats but small enough to feel maneuverable in urban areas. The steering is fairly sharp, and we didn't think twice about rolling over big potholes or even pesky curbs if necessary. If we needed a crossover for the city, the RAV4 would be near the top of our list - and if we lived in a suburban or rural setting, we'd grab a RAV4 V6 and enjoy some of the best reasonably priced SUV acceleration on the market.
